When creating an AI Agent in Regie, the agent type is determined based on the list view selected in Salesforce at the start of the build process.

This decision defines how the Agent will operate—and once the Agent is created, its type cannot be changed.

There are two types of AI Agents:

    • Contact Mode
    • Lead Mode

This article explains the key differences between these Agent types, how each one functions, and what considerations to keep in mind when using them.

    Contact Mode Agent

    How it works:

A Contact Mode Agent uses either Contact or Account lists/reports from Salesforce. It operates primarily based on Account-based views and can identify and engage new prospects by leveraging the contact-to-account relationship.

    Key Functions:

    • Works with Contact and Account list views or reports in Salesforce.

    • Can target explicit Contact lists and reference their associated Accounts to determine ownership.

    • Prioritizes Accounts and their ownership (by Salesforce User ID) as the basis for decision-making and outreach.

    Important Considerations:

    • Contact Mode is ideal for Account-Based Marketing (ABM) or sales strategies where Account ownership drives territory or outreach decisions.
    • List organization and ownership routing are determined at the Account level.

    Lead Mode Agent

A Lead Mode Agent uses Salesforce Lead lists or reports to identify and reach out to new prospects. This mode is typically used for top-of-funnel, high-volume outbound motions, especially where Account data is not yet available.

    Key Functions:

    • Operates from Lead-specific views or reports in Salesforce.

    • Ideal for lookalike modeling and broad outbound campaigns where leads are not yet tied to an Account.

    Important Considerations:

    • These lead lists don’t have an associated Account in Salesforce. This must be considered if Audience expansion is being used with this type of list.
    • When Regie creates a new lead in their CRM, ownership will not automatically be assigned.  Ownership must be routed automatically (using a product like Lean Data) or manually assigned by your team.
